Quantum technology for military applications

Abstract Quantum technology is an emergent and potentially disruptive discipline, with the ability to affect many human activities. technologies are dual-use technologies, as such of interest defence security industry military governmental actors. This report reviews maps possible quantum applications, serving entry point for international peace assessment, ethics research, policy, strategy decision making. applications introduce new capabilities, improving effectiveness increasing precision, thus leading ‘quantum warfare’, wherein strategies, doctrines, policies should be established. provides a basic overview under development, also estimating expected time scale delivery or utilisation impact. Particular described various warfare domains (e.g. land, air, space, electronic, cyber underwater ISTAR—intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition reconnaissance), related issues challenges articulated.
